Our Club Captain, Murray Tinker, has set aside part of Tuesday morning play to conduct 6 skills coaching lessons. Hopefully, the outcome of Murray's endeavours will find that members will be more confident in their play; and perhaps more willing to play in competitions. The first session attracted 14 participants and was enjoyed by all participants.

Inter-Club Competitions

The SCRCC Inter-club competitions have commenced. In GC, our pennant team (div1) got off to a great start with a 9-1 win over Nambour. However, in our second match, despite winning on net hoops, we lost 6-4 against Coolum. In the div3 competition, our plate team lost their first match 6-4 against Nambour. However, they followed up with a narrow win on net hoops against Headland, as the games were tied 5 apiece.

Unfortunately, our shield team's first match (div. 2), against Bribie was washed out as we received 180 mm over the three days Saturday to Monday. However, it was pleasing to see that our courts were definitely playable for normal club play on Tuesday morning.

Regional Championships

The SC Regional tournaments have recently been completed with Noosa hosting the GC and Range the AC. There were only five entries in the SC Regional Division 2 AC singles event.

Due to a number of reasons Caloundra was only able to provide one entry for this event. Murray Tinker represented us and managed to play beyond all expectations including his own. The Range Club courts were in excellent condition and Tournament Manager and referee, Wallace Roy, made for a perfect 2 days of play. Murray managed to peg out in all games and drop his handicap. Yes, he did win, with Sarah Widin coming second. Thank you The Range for hosting.

Ahoy Sunshiney residents, remember to make a spot in your calendar for the AC and RC regionals this time next year. We didn't have a competitor in Regional GC singles events. Russell Robertson partnered Colin Beckett (Headland) in the Open Doubles, and they reached the semi-final of the Championship round.

Our much-appreciated new kitchen is now fully functional thanks to the outstanding efforts of Robyn Brown. The committee is now investigating means of procuring a new floor to complement the kitchen.

Gateball

Seven of our Gateballers played in the teams' event at the recent Moreton Bay carnival. There were eight teams competing and despite beating the eventual winners of the competition with four wins from our seven games, Caloundra finished a creditable fourth. Don and Kerry Helmrich and Robyn Brown and Fran Buckle (Moreton Bay), participated in the doubles event. Unfortunately, neither pair made the final.
