Our club would like to extend huge congratulations to one of our valued members, Steve Kele for being named Sportsperson of the Year at this year's Rockhampton Australia Day Awards. This is a wonderful and well deserved honour that recognises his outstanding achievements, dedication to sport, and positive contribution to our community.
While the Australia Day Awards are usually held in late January, this year's ceremony was postponed due to flooding in the region and was instead held in mid-February by the local council. Despite the delay, it was a fantastic evening celebrating the many inspiring individuals who make a difference in our community.
This award is a fitting recognition of the dedication, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm Steve brings to both Gateball and Croquet. His passion for the game, friendly spirit, and commitment to our club make him a truly deserving recipient and reflects the values our club strives to uphold.
Please join us in congratulating Steve on this fantastic achievement. We are incredibly proud to see him recognised and look forward to many more great moments on the Gateball and Croquet lawns.
Moreton Bay Gateball Success
Four members from our club, Steve, Cheryl, John and Linda joined by two players from Toronto and National Park clubs Ruth and Helen, travelled away from 14th to 16th March to compete in the recent Moreton Bay Gateball teams and doubles event. The weekend proved to be a great success, with our club achieving excellent results against strong competition.
Playing in the teams competition, our players worked together superbly, showing skill, strategy and teamwork throughout the event. Their efforts paid off with an outstanding 1st place finish, a fantastic achievement and a credit to the dedication of everyone involved.
The success continued in the doubles competition. After several closely contested matches, our club members secured 3rd and 4th place, demonstrating strong sportsmanship across the tournament.
